From intimate to epic, comedic to grim, Brief Meditations on Distant Worlds offers a seemingly random collection of snapshots from across space and time. Watch a spectacular sunrise over a dark planet. Traverse an incomprehensible nebula. Witness aliens line dancing. Discover what Tyrell kept in the basement.
In December 2022, I set myself a 12-day challenge: to explore the capabilities of the PaulXStretch plugin by composing a new piece each day. The process began with 'Crunchy Meditation' on day one. On day two, I stretched the piece using the plugin, selected a section, and built 'Electric Snow' around it. I repeated this process each day, layering creativity with experimentation.
The result is a series of pieces that are musically interconnected yet vastly different in temperament—like 12 siblings, each with a unique personality and place in the world.

Day 1: In the vastness of space, finding calm is easy. It is the moments that energize the senses and focus the mind that are most cherished.
Day 2: A frosty, alien landscape shimmers in the fading light.
Day 3: Travelling through the vast, cloudy cathedrals of the nebula, you can't help but feel that space itself is trying to tell you something.
Day 4: You slowly approach a dark planet, just as its star begins to crest.
Day 5: Even alien bugs need a little romance.
Day 6: A three-and-a-half step shuffle is something you don't want to miss should you ever get the chance.
Day 7: Though you no longer have any idea what day it is back home, a beautiful snowscape on a far-off planet brings to mind a joyful season.
Day 8: On a world filled with mystery and danger, you keep to the shadows.
Day 9: Not all worlds are equally welcoming. You quietly and desperately search for a way out of unexpected danger.
Day 10: It's all fun and games until someone breaks the time machine.
Day 11: Hidden deep in the cavernous basement of a monolithic corporation, failed experiments are left to chitter and wallow.
Day 12: An otherwise barren planet is alive with an ancient technology. Where and when they came from is a puzzle for another journey.
