O Horizon

This work was published by the team at Synphaera as part of their Assemblage project. It is one of seven pieces selected for the album The Grand Expanse. You can access the complete album [here].

When I first read the album prompt—deep ethereal ambient—I was immediately transported to an old, dark forest with spongy ground, teeming with life. "O horizon" is the technical term for that layer of spongy ground, also known as the litter layer or humus.

Unlike most musical works, my vision for this piece was not to take the listener on a journey. Instead, I imagined sitting on the humus, quieting the mind, and simply bearing witness to the rhythms of life all around.

Compositionally, this piece is largely procedural. I created unique patterns for the different voices, then let the music evolve from those patterns. This approach reflects the complex interplay of independent patterns found in nature.
