Robert Killen is a composer and multidisciplinary artist driven by a lifelong compulsion to create. Whether through music, painting, or professional endeavors, Robert brings innovation and a desire to build meaningful connections into every aspect of his work. His compositions capture profound human experiences, weaving vivid imagery and storytelling into each note.
From an early age, Robert's love for music was evident. His formative years were shaped by the evocative film scores of Henry Mancini and John Williams, which inspired him to pursue music composition at Northwestern University and the University of Oregon. Though his original dream of becoming a film composer didn’t materialize, his creative journey was only beginning.
During his university years, Robert discovered a talent for painting and drawing, particularly in watercolors. Tranquil coastal scenes became his hallmark, and his works were exhibited in galleries throughout the Pacific Northwest. In time, he pushed his artistic boundaries, exploring more expressionistic styles and experimenting with scale.
In 2002, Robert transitioned into roles that allowed him to directly serve others. Over the next two decades, he ventured into finance, non-profit management, small business support, and professional speaking. At every turn, his creative drive remained a constant, manifesting in projects like curriculum design, marketing campaigns, and authoring Building Credit Friendly Habits. Even during periods when formal arts were at the periphery, Robert's artistry infused every endeavor.
In 2022, a request from one of his three sons to compose a track for a video game he was writing reignited Robert's passion to compose. This pivotal moment led to collaborations on indie game projects, experimental compositions, and more personal expositions, including Brief Meditations on Different Worlds, a series of electronic shorts, and Portraits of Florence, a collection of works for piano inspired by his experiences in Italy.
Today, Robert creates music that expresses the internal state and emotional response evoked by specific landmarks, moments, or experiences. Through his compositions, as with his visual art, he seeks to transport his audience to a memory or an emotion, or to evoke a state of peaceful contemplation.
